Deepawali Festivals

The thirteen day of Kartik(October/November) is devoted to the festival of lights, and is celebrated all over the country as Deepawali or Diwali. Dedicated to Lakshmi, the goddess of good fortune, the festival also dates back to the days of the Ramayana. When Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after fourteen years in exile, the entire kingdom welcomed him by lightning up their houses. It is a tradition that is continued to this day. Each house , no matter how big or small, is lit up by hundreds of earthen Diyas, candles and electric lights.

Entire villages, towns and cities are bathed in a magical glow. The effect is overwhelming. Preparartions for Diwali begins days before the actual festival.
